Is Tutoring Worth It?

WELCOME

What standard do we hold ourselves to?

This week I am looking at something slightly different to the usual snippet of knowledge which gives a piece of advice on how to improve your studying techniques or life habits. This week I am writing a more introspective article on the tutoring company and comparing to some of the competitors. Read our previous articles here.

I have collated below a summary of a range of tutoring institutes from varying locations.

What should be evident from this is that our tutorials are much cheaper than most educational institutes out there. The top 3 companies in the table are probably the most famous 3 tutoring brands across the UK for tutoring, however in all measurable fields U-cademy is head and shoulders above them.

The two London based companies included are elite upper tier tutoring institutes at present. These offer a genuine promise of success and often deliver on the promise, but there is one catch - the fees. You are often looking at forking out as much as £100,000 per year.

The well established tutoring companies (Kumon, Explore, et al.) are generally inefficent in helping achieve top results in examinations, while the super fancy London based tutoring institutes are charging your life and soul. We personally try to find a sweet spot where we can offer top quality education at a reasonable rate.

You may ask why? This has a lot to do with my own personal upbringing and values. My single mother could never afford tutoring, we lived in a council estate for all of my academic life. So why is it when I have the opportunity to give back to the community I should turn my back on those that deserve it, but don’t have the means? We don’t want money to be a barrier to entry into top schools and universities, and while we’ve priced our courses significantly lower than our competitors, we understand that the price might still be too high for some students. That’s why we offer an unlimited number of bursaries to students for whom entry into top schools and universities is a realistic prospect but who, for whatever reason, would find it difficult to attend our courses on financial grounds. Click here to the see the Bursary form. I do understand not all businesses can offer such bursaries so I do not hold them accountable, but we can, so we do. It is as Gandalf the Grey said:

"All you have to do is to decide what to do with the time that is given to you.”

We genuinely strive to help out students, if you feel we aren’t doing our bit somehow do drop me a line on this email. Until next week everyone :)
