FAQ

  • Do you offer free trials?
The initial consultation is completely free (worth £50) which allows the consultant to get to know the student better. It also helps the student understand the Ucademy teaching philosophy. Great right?
  • What is your payment policy?
All payments are required in advance before the first session, for the upcoming month. The payments are made via our website and are automatically debited from your account each month unless you cancel. Honest pricing. No hidden fees. This allows Ucademy to schedule its lessons appropriately.
  • What is your attendance policy?
Sessions will typically run every week all year round until the completion of the course. Students are expected to attend all sessions for the full completion of the course. This includes sessions in the Summer and Winter holidays. A student may take 8 absences throughout an academic year (24 hour notice is required). If the student misses a lesson, they can catchup with the full recorded session available on the portal (including the homework set for that session). A student will be removed from the tutorials after 8 absences in an academic year. We deem this to be an excessive amount of absences for a student who is aspiring for top grades. No refund is provided for absences, since the student is occupying a limited place in the class.
  • What if I have an emergency absence?
Generally an emergency absence will count under the normal absence policy, however the Ucademy team will judge it on a case by case basis and exceptions may be made. Some common reasons for absences which are counted under the usual absence rules: Lack of communication devices (e.g. No internet connection) Pilgrimage Pre planned or emergency holiday Sick student

  • What is full completion of the course?
Full completion of the course refers to completing the recommended number of tutorial sessions and outside of hours work. This varies from student to student and as such our consultant will advise you on what is required to achieve successful completion during the free initial consultation. Sign up here.
  • Can I change my tutor?
All of our tutors have been carefully assessed and selected. If you want to know more about our tutor selection process, please view this blog on our website. We are confident in their teaching abilities. If you have any concerns about your tutors’ methods or style of teaching don’t hesitate to bring it up with them or contact us. We will thoroughly review the situation and find a way to resolve the issue and tailor the lessons in line with the students’ needs.
  • How do you teach if there are students with different syllabi studying in the same class?
The lessons are taught using the syllabus of the majority of students in the class; however, we ensure that everything from every syllabus is covered for students with different exam boards. This also helps the other students expand their knowledge beyond the compulsory content in order to improve their conceptual understanding!
  • How do you teach if there are students with different abilities studying in the same tutorial?
All students attend a free initial consultation in which their ability is assessed. Students are then grouped in a tutorial with other students of similar ability. We don't differentiate students based on their age, but rather by their ability. As such we often have students who are in Year 8 or 9 and have completed the full GCSE syllabus. Further to this our Tutors pay attention to each of the students’ individual needs assigning individualised homework to each student.
  • Do you offer 1-2-1 tutorials?
Yes, we do but there is limited availability. Most of our tutors are booked in advance for the academic year so it is extremely difficult to schedule new 1-2-1 tutorials. Please note as part of our full course, we allocate a minimum of 5, 1-2-1 sessions in the final year of examinations for students per subject, to ensure enough individualised attention is delivered. This is already included in the fees you pay, so you don't need to worry about paying anything extra.
  • When should we start?
11+: Our Full Course runs from the beginning of Year 3 in order to solidify foundational skills before focusing on more difficult topics. GCSE: How long is a piece of string? It is dependent on the student’s needs. There are pre-GCSE classes for students starting from the end of year 6, or we cover the full course from the start of Year 10 with much faster paced lessons. The later you start the more intense the course will be. A-level: The transition from GCSE to A-level is tough – even for the brightest students. We recommend that students get a head start in their Year 11 holidays to make this transition easier. University Applications: With the exception of work experience we recommend starting applications/tests for universities at the end of year 12 mocks in schools.
  • Can we select our tutorial slots?
Ucademy has many tutorials scheduled throughout the week and we accommodate the student's needs as much as possible. Ultimately however the tutorial slot selection is dependent on availability in class and student's current ability. In summary class allocation is based on 3 things: 1. Student's availability. 2. Student's current level. 3. Ucademy's available slots for the subject. We may also be able to set up a completely new class if students wish to begin a class with their friends. Usually students gather friends from their own schools or local area to begin the session with them. We require 6 students to begin a new slot for tutorials. Remember we offer a generous £80 referral bonus for every student who signs up because of you!
  • Can you guarantee results?
The true test of someone's word is whether they deliver on their promises. We mean it when we say we want to provide top quality education to all. Thus we guarantee the following results upon the completion of the relevant Full Courses: - Securing a place in a grammar school for 11+ - Grade 7-9 for GCSE - Grade A/A* for Alevels - Successfully passing Medicine application stages (for selected UK universities) You can check out our reviews to see some of the glowing testimonials: https://www.trustpilot.com/review/ucademy.co.uk
