WELCOME!

Last man standing

As most of you know I work on a robotics' startup in addition to heading up the tutoring institute on a weekly basis. A significant portion of time is spent on tutoring, research, analytics and in consultations, such that my robotic's startup is often starved of the attention it needs. The little time spent has resulted in robotics being severely suppressed in its growth. I still insist and intend on working on it even if it is a smaller amount of time then I had initially intended.

The same goes for my ACL rehabilitation at the gym, it doesn't really matter what I do at the gym, as long as I turn up regularly.

The same goes for students practicing for their examinations. A big part of it is just turning up and practising on the work required.  (This is not to say technique doesn't matter and I have written about this previously). This means if your school is running extra sessions, turn up. Mock exams, turn up.

The same goes for careers. Several eons ago when I was a student I received more interviews and offers than any other student I knew on my course, from some of the biggest firms across the financial and engineering world. Why? One huge factor was I made more job applications than all of them. (It is ironic that I now run startups as opposed to a corporate life).

This article from James Clear digs deeper into the concept that it is much better to work towards your "average speed" rather than your "maximum speed".  Maximum speed is what you see on Instagram and Snapchat where you are posting a selfie in the gym when you only turn up once a month, while average speed is working behind the scenes day in day out.

This Will Smith clip aptly explains this concept, he mentions a huge part of his success is just down to being the last man standing.

"Greatness is not this wonderful esoteric, god like elusive thing that only the special amongst us will achieve” - Will Smith

I think many GCSE, A-level and University students in the final run-up to their examinations can do well by adopting this approach.
